The ulu is a traditional multi-purpose cutting tool with a semi-circular blade. Common uses include skinning and cleaning animals as well as chopping food. Before the introduction of metal, the ulu blade was made from slate rock. 

 

Bob Merry is a local Alaskan that created ulus from Moose, Caribou, fossilized Walrus rib or jaw bone, and Woolly Mammoth bone.
